Arb Expo (Plant Sale)

Join us Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Arboretum Centre for our inaugural Arboretum Expo. Attendees will have the opportunity to "Meet the Trees" while taking part in tours, demonstrations, research exhibits, full-family activities, live music and plant sale. Come connect with Arboretum staff and volunteers to learn about trees you won't find anywhere else in Canada, and learn more about our efforts to conserve endangered species and restore natural habitats.

The Arboretum Expo also marks the return of our hugely popular Arboretum Auxiliary Plant Sale, in our new location and with a renewed focus on only the most unique and rare plants produced in our Arboretum Nursery. Quantities will be limited and selections will include plants not found anywhere else, so please be sure to mark your calendar for this one-of-a-kind event. A listing of plants is available here: https://www.uoguelph.ca/arboretum/sites/uoguelph.ca.arboretum/files/public/PlantSaleList2018-Ver1.2.pdf

Wednesday Walks

We have two great options available for guided walks on The Arboretum grounds.

Join Rachel every Wednesday at 12:15 as she explores the grounds on a 50 minute hike. It is a wonderful way to explore all that summer has to offer on The Arboretum grounds. The walk is free and you should meet at the kiosk at the end of the promenade closest to campus if you are interested in participating.

On Wednesday evenings through to the end of August our Summer Interpretive Naturalist, Sally leads our Wednesday Evening Walk series. These programs take place each Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. beginning at the J.C. Taylor Centre. The cost is $2 per person with children under 5 free. Here are some of the upcoming walks:

Care For The Rare – August 15 - With the conversion of many forests and grasslands into urban and agricultural land, and pollution of aquatic environments, there are more than 200 animals and plants in Ontario listed as a species of risk. Come learn about the rare Ontario species that can be found in the Arboretum and what you can do to help!

I’m Lichen this Fungi – August 22 - Did you know that there are around 130 different species of lichen in Ontario, and 111 of these species have been found in the Arboretum alone? Not only that, 237 species of fungi have also been seen in the Arboretum. This Wednesday we’ll be expanding our knowledge into the little, yet fascinating, world of lichen and fungi.

The Not-So-Creepy Creepy Crawlies – August 29 - When I ask you to think of a cute animal, what is the first thing that comes to mind? A panda? A dog? A bunny? Not many people or even anyone at all would say an insect or spider as their answer. Pandas and dogs are furry and have cute faces, but so can some insects! Join us on our last Wednesday Walk to learn about the diversity and importance of Ontario insect species!
