Workshops

For both ecological and economic reasons we no longer print and mail a seasonal program listing our workshops and special events. The information is now distributed via this e-newsletter and is always available on our website. We do appreciate your past and future support of our workshops, the income from which supports other Arboretum educational endeavours such as brochures, signs, booklets, tours and our website.

If you know of people who may be interested in our workshops or who have received our seasonal program in the past who do not receive this e-newsletter, we would appreciate if you could pass this information on to them. To subscribe to the newsletter simply send an e-mail to [log in to unmask] with “subscribe to newsletter” in the subject line and include your e-mail address and first and last name in the text of the e-mail.

If you have a spot in your community or at your workplace where you can display our workshop posters, please contact Bev Healy at [log in to unmask] and she will be happy to send them to you.

Below is a list of upcoming workshops at The Arboretum. Please forward this e-mail to your friends and colleagues! The more participants we have, the more programs we can offer.

Winter Mammal Quiz

While some of our mammal species hibernate or at least do a lot of sleeping in the winter, some are very active. Can you identify these Arboretum winter mammals? The answers are at the bottom of the newsletter.

Mammal Quiz

Staff Portrait

by Sean Fox

Assistant Arboretum Manager & Horticulturist

First and foremost, my daily life at The Arboretum is chiefly centred on all-things trees (or woody plants to be more precise). Through my duties, I’m lucky enough to be able to take part in the very early process of collecting seeds from a tree in the wild, all the way through to caring for the large veteran trees that we already have growing on site. My role as Assistant Arboretum Manager and Horticulturist finds me involved in many other facets of the day to day operation of The Arboretum as well. Being a member of the Arboretum Management Group also provides me the opportunity to help play a humble role in determining the vision and future direction of our organization. Read more.

New and Improved Website

Under the direction of Chris Earley The Arboretum has an updated web page... www.uoguelph.ca/arboretum. While we have tried to check all pages before going live with the site there may be some glitches we have missed. If you find one let us know via e-mail and we will correct it as soon as we can. Hope you enjoy the site and return often.

What to See Currently at The Arboretum

Our best sighting recently was that of a very beautiful Coyote. Norris Hoag took this photo while the coyote was looking through the fence that separates the Village by The Arboretum and The Arboretum Nature Reserve. Our coyotes are impressive-looking specimens!

Other recent sightings photos from The Arboretum can be viewed at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52649814@N05/. Please check this frequently to see current photos.
